Simon Turner

Simon studied Furniture Design and Silversmithing at university and has worked as a product designer, teacher, lecturer in Set Design and Construction at RADA and works across several mediums including textiles, wood, and ceramics, discovering ways to combine all these into projects and commissions.

He is fascinated by patterns and textures in nature and, for some strange reason, graveyards. His latest obsession is street ironwork such as beautiful coalhole covers for which Islington is famous (just look down and you will spot them – Noel Street is amazing!).

His ceramics involve making clay pressings done out on the street, in the Suffolk countryside and at local graveyards such as Abney Park and Bunhill Fields. He recently completed a commission of 50 bowls which used the bark impressions from trees in a Suffolk estate and has exhibited at Tate St.Ives, Snape Maltings, Helmingham Hall and lots of other places.

Simon will be updating the pieces on show at The Bakery so look out for new work.
