Collection: The Cat Show: The Artist Mews

The Bakery Art Gallery is proud to present The Cat Show: The Artist’s Mews online. The Cat Show was a group exhibition that brought together a profusion of artists in a collective celebration of the domestic cat—as a muse, companion, and symbol of independence, resilience, and quiet authority. Cats appeared not only as subjects, but as a presence, observing and inhabiting both physical and imaginative space on their own terms. As Pablo Neruda wrote in Ode to the Cat: “Little by little they put themselves together, making themselves a landscape, acquiring spots, grace, flight.”

From realistic to abstract, reflective to humorous, the exhibition showcased a wide range of cat-inspired and cat-adjacent works. Curated by a jury of cat-owned artists from invited artists and open call submissions, it presented a diverse array of media including drawing, painting, textile, photography, ceramics, collage, and mixed media. Donations were collected in support of Cats Protection throughout the exhibition.

Although the exhibition has now closed, a selection of works remains available to view and purchase online for a limited time.
