Collection: MEL BARRETT

Mel Barrett works from her studio in South West London, painting everyday subjects with a quiet, expressive warmth.  Inspired by the Modern British artists of the last century - Winifred Nicholson, Vanessa Bell and Roger Fry are just a few of her favourites - she says that the subjects of her paintings are ‘mere excuses’:  “Jugs, fruit, domestic interiors, urban landscapes - these are all jumping-off points from which I can explore the interplay between shape, line and colour.”  Her muted palette and gentle compositions create a sense of calm that collectors love.
